## Lyrics

### Verse 1 (sl)

Naš kuža je hodil k sosedi v vas,
ga psička vabila je vsak dan naglas,
ob mraku, ko putke pospravil je spat,
je tačke si očistil in šel vasovat.
A zjutraj ko delal se beli je dan,
se vračal naš kuža domov je zaspan,
naš kuža je priden in rada ga imam,
čeprav poležava v senci ves dan.

### Verse 2 (sl)

Nečesa pa se prav potihem bojim,
le kaj bo naš kuža in kaj bo še z njim,
če enkrat slučajno bo očka postal,
takrat bo odšel, a meni bo žal.

### English translation (en)

Our doggy went to the neighbour's in the village,
a little dog called him out loud every day;
at dusk, once he'd put the hens to bed,
he cleaned his paws and went off courting.
But in the morning, as the day dawned white,
our doggy would come home sleepy,
our doggy is good and I love him so,
even though he lazes in the shade all day.

But there's one thing I quietly fear,
whatever will become of our doggy —
if one day he happens to become a daddy,
then he'll go away, and I'll be sorry.

## Common questions

**What is "Naš kuža" about?**

A family dog with a love life. Our doggy goes off to the neighbour's each night, called by a little female dog; once he's seen the hens to bed, he cleans his paws and goes courting, coming home sleepy at dawn. He's a good dog and the child loves him — even if he dozes in the shade all day. But there's a quiet worry: if one day he becomes a daddy, he might leave, and the child would be sorry.

**Is "Naš kuža" a happy or a sad song?**

Both, gently. It is mostly warm and funny — a dog with his little nightly romance — but touched with a child's tender anxiety about losing a beloved pet. That mix of humour and wistfulness is part of its charm.

**Who wrote "Naš kuža"?**

No author is recorded; it is treated here as a traditional Slovenian children's song, handed down by ear.
